Privacy Policy

Hashavas Tefillin ("we", "us") is a free community service that helps people who lost tefillin find the people who found them, through our website at hashavastefillin.com, our phone line, and text messages. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
What we collect
- Contact details you give us: your name, phone number, and (optional) email address.
- Details about lost or found tefillin: area, place, date, bag color and material, nusach, size, a description, a name or initials on the bag, and private identifying details or a secret question you choose to add. Optional photos, if photo upload is turned on.
- "If found" tags: the tag number, your contact details, an optional description, and messages from people who report finding your tefillin.
- Phone calls and texts: the number you call or text from, the keys you press, and the words you say in answer to our questions (turned into text so we can match posts). We do not record calls.
- Basic technical data: a one-way hash of your internet address, kept for up to two days to prevent abuse. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
How we use it
- To match lost and found posts, and to show each side only what they need to check a possible match.
- To share your name and phone number with the other side only after a match is confirmed, or, for a tag, with the person who found your tefillin if you chose to allow that.
- To contact you about your own post or tag by phone call or, if you agreed, by text message.
- To keep the service safe and prevent misuse.
Nothing you post is listed publicly.
Text messages
If you agree to text updates (by checking the box on our website, pressing 1 on our phone line, or texting us first), we text you about your own post or tag: possible matches, someone reporting that they found your tagged tefillin, updates when the other side responds, and replies to the commands you send. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out at any time, or HELP for help. We send no marketing messages.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. All the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
Who else handles your information
We use a small number of service providers to run the service, only for that purpose: Cloudflare (website hosting and database), Twilio (our phone line and phone calls), and Signal House (text messages). We do not sell, rent or trade your information.
How long we keep it, and deleting it
- You can delete your post at any time from your private page. This removes your name, phone number, email and private details right away.
- You can release a tag at any time from your tag's private page or by phone. This removes your details and the messages left for you.
- Closed posts may be kept, without contact details, to improve matching.
- To ask us to delete anything else, call (866) 464-1918 or email contact@hashavastefillin.com.
Children
The service is meant for adults. If a child under 13 has given us their information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page.
